The Waste Academy is a capacity-building initiative launched by Komptech to strengthen sustainable waste management systems through high-quality education.

Developed as part of a four-year international project, the Waste Academy addresses one of the key challenges in modern waste management: the lack of qualified professionals and structured training opportunities. By combining technical expertise, practical experience, and digital learning formats, the Waste Academy creates a long-term foundation for integrated and circular waste solutions.

 

Online Courses and Learning Topics

This website offers access to the Waste Academy’s online course program, designed for professionals, technicians, managers, and students in the waste sector. Courses cover both basic and advanced knowledge, including:

  • Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM)
  • Waste flows from source to final sink
  • Biological waste treatment (e.g. composting)
  • Thermal waste recovery
  • Modern landfill strategies and technologies

The modular structure allows learners to build skills step by step and apply knowledge directly to real-world waste management challenges.

 

Project Background and Partners

The project is implemented by Komptech in close cooperation with TU Wien, ICEP, and the Ghanaian waste management company Jospong. TU Wien contributes scientific and technical expertise in waste management and treatment technologies, while ICEP provides long-standing experience in economic development and capacity building. Jospong, operating multiple waste processing facilities, brings strong local knowledge and practical insight. The Austrian Development Agency (ADA) supports the project as part of International Partnerships Austria, ensuring quality standards, transparency, and sustainable impact.
